Massive MIMO has been well acknowledged as a promising and essential innovation technology for future wireless communications. Theoretically, the deployment of massive MIMO makes the promise of significant performance enhancement in terms of both spectrum efficiency and energy efficiency. In practice, however, implementing massive MIMO with a large number of antennas requires, at least in current applications, prohibitively high cost and circuit power consumption. The new architecture of driving a large number of antennas by only a much smaller number of RF chains has recently attracted great interest from both academia and industry for efficient massive MIMO implementation. This talk introduces the background and most recent developments in the field of hybrid processing for massive MIMO. Some fundamental limits of the performance by hybrid processing in massive MIMO is firstly characterized. A number of practical considerations for hybrid processing design are then introduced as the most recent results on design optimization for hybrid processing. Finally, a number of current and future research topics in related field are presented.

报告人简介:

许威分别于2003年、2006年和2009年在东南大学获得电气工程学士学位和通信与信息工程硕士、博士学位。现任东南大学移动通信国家重点实验室的教授。许教授于20092010年是加拿大维多利亚大学的电气与计算机工程系博士后研究员;许教授是期刊IEEE COMMUNICATIONS LETTERS的编辑;参加了包括IEEE Globecom, IEEE ICC, IEEE WCNC等很多国际会议的技术项目委员会;已经发表了100多篇期刊和会议论文还有25项发明专利。许教授分别在2013年的IEEE MAPE2014年的IEEE/CIC ICCCIEEE Globecom2016年的IEEE ICUWB上获得了最佳论文奖;于2012年当选江苏创新团队核心团队成员,于2014年获得江苏省科学技术一等奖;研究领域包括协作通信,信息理论和无线通信信号处理。
