Edwin Kan,美国Cornell University教授、博士生导师,IEEE高级会员。长期从事CMOS、半导体器件物理学、CMOS生物传感器、RFID及其在室内定位的应用、常微分方程和偏微分方程的数值方法等方面的研究。先后主持和参与NSF, DARPA, DoE, ARO, AFOSR, DoD MURI, SRC, EPA, NYSTAR, TSMC, IBM等科研项目38项。先后在Nature News, IEEE Spectrum等杂志和会议上发表论文超过250余篇。200010月,获时任总统Bill Clinton亲自授予的美国政府最高荣誉Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineer (PECASE)20098月获Bill Gates颁发的Grand Challenges Award

报告摘要:

Radio-frequency (RF) technology for indoor precision real-time locating system (RTLS) still remains unreliable and imprecise for many applications.The detection and ranging principle of indoor RTLS is similar to outdoor radar, but has many unresolved challenges such as unspecific reflection, path obstruction, and multi-path interference.Passive RF identification (RFID) tags bring the further advantage of digital ID integration, reliable packaging, free of maintenance and a ready infrastructure for manufacturing and operation. Passive broadband harmonic RFID tags to fundamentally remedy previous continuous wave (CW)problems from interferences and phase errors.With the help of known harmonic landmark tags, the tagless objects within the reading range can be further mapped out with redundant spatial and frequency diversity, which enables many additional applications.
